About Me

What is The Cinematic Journey?
When I started this site I wanted a way of sharing my passion for movies in a way that I could bring out content the most consistently. The Cinematic Journey is exactly what the title implies: It's my journey through the world of cinema and how I've grown as an enthusiast through writing. What you'll see here is reviews, brief summaries, lists, articles and, as I've always dreamed, film projects of my own making. I don't have any specific goals with what I'm doing here, only to share my thoughts on a wide range of films and entertain people in the process. It's something I find really fulfilling to do, and that's what The Cinematic Journey is all about.

Who am I?
My name is Josh, I'm 22 years old and I live in Sydney, Australia. My passion for film goes all the way back to my early childhood, but has steadily grown ever since. Some of my best and earliest memories are of sitting in front of the TV and watching movies on VHS, and animated shows on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. Movies like The Lion King and Toy Story were great to grow up with. As I grew my tastes began to expand and eventually I formed an indescribable love of everything Star Wars, Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings, and even though I was very obsessive over this stuff and often took ridicule from my classmates it's definitely something I valued as a part of who I was.

When I started high school my interests in things like video games began to fade whilst an admiration for music grew, but movies were always a constant. At this time I really was diversifying my viewing, and taking part in communities on the internet. In 2010 I started my own YouTube channel 'Moviefan7359' where I regularly reviewed a huge range of titles and learned far more about the craft. This went really well for as long as it lasted, but upon graduation and being hit with new responsibilities it was something I had to give up, at least for the time. Even though life is very different for me now and has brought all these new kinds of challenges movies remain my number one passion and ambition.

What are your favorite movies?
Trying to make an ordered list of your favorite movies when you watch as many as I do isn't an easy task, and the bigger the list the harder it is to make it accurate. Truth is I just love movies too much and making a list of favorites I feel obscures that fact a little, but follow the tab at the top of the screen and you'll see a list of what I consider to be my 30 favourite films.

Who are your favorite directors and actors?
I have tons of favorites for both, but my three favorite directors are Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg. My favorite actor is Robert De Niro.

What other interests do you have?
I'm not much of a reader, but when it comes to books I unsurprisingly really get into stuff about movies. I've read almost every book by Syd Field, who is considered the master of the screenwriting craft.

I was much bigger on music when I was in high school, but I'm still a pretty regular listener of heavy metal, hard rock, film soundtracks and little pieces from other genres. My favorite musical acts include Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, Opeth, Korn, The Misfits, Disturbed, Black Sabbath, Burzum, Sabaton, Megadeth and Pantera.

For exercise I love to swim. I aim to go at least once a week and I'm always trying to push my limits. Given that I haven't always lived so, I think health and fitness are extremely important and can't be neglected.
